Sculptural Form in Durable Terrazzo.
The Halves Coffee Table, designed by the renowned Toronto-based MSDS Studio for Muuto, represents a perfect symbiosis of architectural form and tactile materiality. The entire object is cast from premium terrazzo—a blend of natural stone chips set in a solid cement base—giving it the unmistakable character of massive stone with a soft, refined surface. Thanks to its generous geometric silhouette with a diameter of 85 cm and a unique tiered profile, it functions not only as a practical surface but also as a playful pedestal for art objects or books. Due to the natural variability of terrazzo, every piece is a unique original that brings a sense of calm strength and timeless aesthetics to any interior in subtle shades of off-white or taupe.
With precision craftsmanship and a specialized water- and oil-repellent surface treatment, the Halves Coffee Table blurs the lines between indoor and outdoor environments. It is designed to withstand daily use in a modern living room while also serving as a centerpiece for a terrace or garden, where it will gradually acquire a charismatic patina over time. Designers Jessica Nakanishi and Jonathan Sabine have infused this design with their signature multidisciplinary approach, where material honesty meets the demands of contemporary life. The result is an object that is as practical as it is inspiring—a durable piece of furniture that, thanks to its weight (approx. 50 kg) and stability, naturally anchors a space and creates an intimate interface between people and their environment.
