Basic information

Hew Side Tables Herman Miller

The Hew tables can be used individually as a side table or in clusters to make a dramatic yet organic statement.
Growing up in Arlington, Virginia, Pat Kim was ever curious. “I was always interested in seeing how things worked, fixing things, taking apart an electric pencil sharpener and then trying to put it back together,” Kim says. After graduating from Pratt Institute with a degree in product design, he went in a more organic direction when a woodworker took him under his wing. Now working out of his Brooklyn studio, he’s still enchanted with the lathe and the shapes it encourages. “When I’m on the lathe, I’ll often take a bunch of wood scraps and start turning them just for form exploration,” he says. The Hew Side Table (2018), available in five sculptural forms, derived from those musings. “With wood, I get to basically play all the time.”
